The greatest discovery of my generation is that a human being can alter his life by altering his attitudes of mind ~ William James HypnotherapyWhen many people think of hypnotherapy they are filled with visions of people dancing like chickens and eating onions as though they are apples. Unfortunately, stage hypnotism has had this effect. Clinical hypnotherapy however, is somewhat different. Stage hypnotism is basically an illusion act to make the hypnotist look as though they are 'in control'. This is quite far from the truth. When looking at the 'guinea-pigs' more closely, you'll probably find that they are people who like to perform, and given a few glasses of wine and some encouragement they would probably do those things anyway! How difficult is it to go into an hypnotic state? Most people don't realise that we are going in and out of an hypnotic state many times every day without even noticing. Have you ever driven home and on arrival wondered how on earth you got there? Have you ever been so engrossed in a book that you haven't heard a loved one speak to you? Ever been day-dreaming in the office? Or been watching the television and glancing up at the clock realised that two hours have passed you by without noticing? These are all forms of an hypnotic trance.
Who can be hypnotised? Any body can be hypnotised and you will only ever go as deep into hypnosis as you wish. YOU ARE FULLY AWARE AND IN CONTROL AT ALL TIMES. As professional, registered hypnotherapists, we cannot make any client/patient do or say anything they do not want. Nor will we ask any improper questions or try to expose the client/patients 'deepest, darkest secrets' during an hypnotherapy session. Please see 'Clinical Hypnosis' for further details on hypnotherapy sessions and treatable conditions...
